  •  But isn't there a caveat? (3+ / 0-)

The caveat being that these 501.4 c4's "primary" purpose must be for "social welfare" and not political.  Such a vague term and impossible for the IRS to define.  Verbage used to be "operated exclusively for the promotion of social welfare" but was changed to "primarily".

    •  Nope (0+ / 0-)

Been the law since for a while now. Typically the rule has been erased on expenditures. And certainly it is abused, but you can't just target one side of the political spectrum. That abuse can cut against us one day. It's a principle thing.

      •  "based" not "erased" (0+ / 0-)

      •  The rule determines how the law is interpreted. (0+ / 0-)

The law gave IRS wide berth on administration.  So if you don't like what the IRS is doing, you have to blame past Congresses for making it that way.

        •  Nope (0+ / 0-)

I don't care necessarily HOW they interpret is as long as they interpret it fairly, objectively, and evenly across ideological and political lines.

          •  Nope? (0+ / 0-)

Well, did you consider the fact that only two left-leaning groups actually got their tax free status revoked?  Yes, they looked carefully at several groups, and they included BOTH right and left ones.

Only if you listen to Fox exclusively would you think that this was an assault on right-wing groups.

            •  Yes "Nope" (0+ / 0-)

If you actually follow the facts:

100% of the rw applications were selected for further review, promoted up to higher elves including the DC office. and delayed for two years. That is, every single one.

30% of left applications were selected and either approved or not within the historically typical three month timeframe.

              •  Try some links that work (0+ / 0-)

IF your information is correct, that sounds reasonable to me.  Those right wing organizations are ALEC and Koch run places.  THey definitely should be scrutinized.

But I don't think your info is correct.  Your links don't work.  Nothing I can google supports your claims here.  But it doesn't matter anyway.  This is not a scandal in any way.  Issa is a fool from a gerrymandered district that keeps him safe in his lunacy.  Otherwise, he would be at least trying to act like a sane person.

                •  The links should be fine. I just checked them: (0+ / 0-)

Either you are lying or we have different IPS.

My info IS correct, and no it isn't reasonable that one ideological group get targeted. Period. No matter who it is.

But you give away your ideological biases by saying

                  "But it doesn't matter anyway."
. Evidence and facts do not matter? I thought this was reality based community.

Check my info and rebut with facts if you wish, but do not laugh away the IRS being political in their processing of applications.

                •  It's not that gerrymandered (0+ / 0-)

My group and I have seen Democratic & Independent voter registration increases in the thousands from September 2012 - February 2013 vs. just 225 lousy Republican voter registrations.  The latest report at CA Voter Registration Statistics doesn't show much change in number of voter registrations across the board in Dem, GOP, Independent fields but we'll see what happens in the months ahead.

But CA-49 really should be getting more GOP voter registrations.  After all, Issa's had a clout here and a long history with the CA Republican Party since 1990's as he's been a prolific fundraiser since.

    •  501 c 4 statute says "excessively" (0+ / 0-)

IRC 501 c 4 says the purpose must exclusively social welfare.  Eisenhower's AG snuck in the "primarily" language as regulation….but it is not the law.The real scandal is IRS not having followed the statue since Ike, and Congress should fix that.  Political groups can still get non profit status as 527s, like the real political parties do.  But as 527s, it darn near impossible to launder money, hide contributors, or use a bunch of naive Tea Party groups to suck off legal fees from gullible conservatives.  You can do it to 501 c 4 gullible Tea Partiers.
