  •  Well, Kiss our climate goodbye (0+ / 0-)

because if the tr sands are fully exploited and China goes ahead with its plans to make syngas from coal, we're cooked.

“Industry does everything they can and gets away with it almost all the time, whether it’s the coal industry, not the subject of this hearing, or water or whatever. They will cut corners, and they will get away with it. " Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D, WVa

    •  I think the climate *is* screwed. (0+ / 0-)

It sucks, but not I'm not going to pretend it's not going to happen just because I don't want to happen. We may wish for 350 or less, but we'll be lucky to level off at 550 - and only that if we work really, really hard on an international basis to kill demand for carbon-based fuels (not just little symbolic measures that just reduce a couple oil companies quarterly profit reports)

I fully expect to see Snæfellsjökull gone from my summer horizon in a couple decades. :Þ

The day I'll consider justice blind is the day that a rape defendant's claim of "She consented to the sex" is treated by the same legal standards as a robbery defendant's claim of "He consented to give me the money": as an affirmative defense.
