If Putin keeps on expanding... and likely he will, there will be armed conflict that the larger western powers will get sucked into at some point.  At that point, it will be bigger and bloodier than if we could have stopped Putin now, early on.  That is what McCain is referring to--somehow nipping it in the bud (I can't believe I'm defending McCain--the world is ending).  Since Putin only responds to force, and we've ruled that out, there is no way to stop the madman at the moment, and that means further bloodshed down the road unfortunately.

But for the chickenhawks who are crying for Obama to "get tough" with Putin, what do they propose. Even McCain is saying there are no military options, so they should be told to shut their faces over and over again.

" LordMike"  sounds just like a neocon.  There is no "military option" against Holy Mother Russia besides nuclear holocaust.  Read some history, Lord Mike.  The past Millennium  is littered with examples of wanna-be empire builders trying to conquer Russia getting their butts handed to them.

Besides, the US does not directly confront the other superpowers, China and Russia.  The modern US "defense" forces only attack countries with fifth-rate militaries, like Iraq.
