Tennessee's Amendment is even more specific.

is one of the most exclusionary in the country.  It not only refuses to recognize same-sex marriages, but any OTHER form of union (for gay or straight couples) that is not a "traditional marriage" as "lawful".  No civil union, no common-law marriage, no domestic partnership -- even if it was performed in another state.  It was the "nuclear option" of amendment choices, and probably was forwareded for consideration with the idea that if they started at the worst case, they could always "compromise" on some of the non-gay parts if they had to.  But they sold it as "marriage protection" so a large number of voters supported it without even knowing all that it did.  And now it will take ANOTHER referendum to repeal it, but good luck even getting it on a ballot until this legislature is retired to the scrap heap on which they belong.

I'll believe corporations are people when one comes home from Afghanistan in a body bag.

Since the law has been passed in numerous states, can ANYONE show that alleged "damage" to "normal" marriages it would require defending against? Given that more than 50% of marriages ended in divorce for decades now, did that final 50% just evaporate and end marriages across the nation?
