  •  I think that it's quite likely (none)
    that there are people who are dead in actual fact as a result of this exposure.  Not all of them (or even very many of them) will have been actual informants--but in some circumstances mere association after the fact with Valerie Plame or Joe Wilson will have been enough to generate sufficient suspicion for such an action.

    I don't know how you would go about trying to justify your actions after the fact if they had that sort of result--I'm just glad that I don't have to.  If I were Judy Miller I would be having a very hard time trying to get a good night's sleep; OTOH is seems to me that she is quite confident that some nutso greater good has been served by all this; maybe that will change over the next 4 months or whatever the remaining term for the grand jury is, but I doubt it a bit.

    (Having said all this, let me also say that I think that some real jail time for this contempt citation is inherently justified (even though it isn't supposed to be punitive) and--who knows?--may do some good.)
