I am a recovering (I hope) perfectionist and I can see the symptoms from here. It is the reason I have completed the course work in two separate Ph.D. programs and do not have the Ph.D. There is a lot to say, but people need to recognize what they do, not what they fail at.

Long story, but a minor and unimportant mistake in coding is not something to apoligize for. Just correct it and go on. Beating yourself up over it or publicly apologizing for it is simply wrong. Always focus on what you intended and on what you accomplish. Searching for your failures is self-defeating. We ALL screw up. It is why Zen artists in Japan always insert at least one mistake in any master work they complete.

Being human means making mistakes. We are measured by what we do, not by the mistakes we make along the way. I don't give a rats' ass what our parents said. The were wrong. But they were perfectionists too. Don't live with it, and for God's sake, don't pass it on.
