  •  It's called dumbing down the masses (23+ / 0-)

Makes ramming through whatever the corporate interests want easier when the general public's brains have been reduced to sludge.

    •  When Scott Pelley took over the Evening News (9+ / 0-)

there was a very noticible lurch to the right--I'll never forget him nodding and smiling a smug smile when a panel spoke of 'personal responsibility'. His stories are so full of, shall we say exaggerations, that cast Democratic ideals and legislators in a bad light that I can't watch him anymore.

    •  My guess is it has to do with who is running (34+ / 0-)

      CBS News.

I give you David Rhodes, president of the news division since February 2011.

Rhodes began his career as a Production Assistant at the newly-launched Fox News Channel in 1996, where he later became Vice President of News. At the network he managed coverage of three presidential elections, wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, hurricanes including Katrina, and was the channel's Assignment Manager on the news desk the morning of September 11, 2001.
Take a minute to digest this. He was a founding hire of Roger Ailes at FoxNews, which began in 1996. He was complicit in coverage of the 2000 election there, infamous for its premeditation in calling Florida for Bush and greasing the skids for the judicial fraud that installed him. He worked to mercilessly flog the trumped up casus belli for the Iraq invasion, contributed to the endless hours of fawning coverage to the theater of "Mission Accomplished", the Pat Tillman affair, and every other lie and misdirection of the WoT. In 2004, he would have participated in the trashing of John Kerry by endlessly looping the Swiftboat slander. And when Katrina swamped New Orleans, he gave Bush, Brownie and Chertoff full run of the platform and his studio anchors a green light to fan racial bigotry on national TV until Geraldo Rivera broke down live and could no longer participate -- systematic bigotry that has fully flowered during FoxNews' feverish effort to destroy candidate and President Barack Obama.

In short, Rhodes served as Roger Ailes' lieutenant in his campaign to make FoxNews the official media organ of a Constitutional coup, the defender of the high crimes and resounding failings of the Bush White House, and the creator of an assassination climate for the Obama presidency. For this, he was given the presidency of CBS News.

That's no run-of-the-mill corporate-y blabbity-blah. That is a conspiracy to misinform and incite to hatred of the American public through a news organ the Right has been trying to gut in earnest since Bernard Golberg poison-penned "Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News" in 2001.

David Rhodes is a Trojan horse. As we catalogue the cavalcade of crap now spewing from CBS News, we absolutely must attach David Rhodes' name and bio to every bit of it, or we will miss the big picture.

No infiltration required. They've always been there.

We Americans were fortunate enough for one short, golden moment to have and enjoy the courage and integrity of the likes of Edward R. Murrow.

And now, the corporate bosses are doing their damnedest to make sure that no such thing ever returns to mass media.

And we're all worse off for it.

          •  Though never as many as now. Murrow was fired (0+ / 0-)

(or at least forced out) later on, after the "Good Night and Good Luck" confrontation, and these days he'd get shit-canned just like Phil Griffin has done to Donahue and others who rock the boat.
