  •  MFP: Moving. (8+ / 0-)

We are now in the "Drowning in boxes in the new place, while cleaning up the old place" stage.

Currently the truck is loaded, and my sons helped load it tonight. Most everything's now over at our house.

Tomorrow they'll go over to our house and move things in the office so they can set the daybed up in there, and then unload the truck and put up the daybed. Meanwhile, I'll come out here and clean and finish packing the random stuff that always starts showing up at this stage, and my mother and my younger kid are going to assist, as will my husband and older boy when they get done with the unload.

A final load of boxes, and we will be moved.

When you come to find how essential the comfort of a well-kept home is to the bodily strength and good conditions, to a sound mind and spirit, and useful days, you will reverence the good housekeeper as I do above artist or poet, beauty or genius.

    •  The worst move I ever made (6+ / 0-)

was moving into a house that was less than one block from the other. It took forever.

    •  Oh, I can hardly wait for that... (7+ / 0-)

...except we have some intermediate steps to take care of.

First, of course, the new house isn't finished, and when it is, we have to go through getting a certificate of habitability from the county.

Then, there's the little thing about Calamity Jean's brother not wanting any of the parent's furniture to be taken out of storage until Dad dies. We also need to get some storage out near the farm, for staging.

And finally, getting the cat out to the new house. He hates going anywhere in the car (it's usually to the vet), there's a 2+ hour drive out there, and he has abandonment issues.

And I will have to replace my car before we move. I don't trust my 2001 Focus to make the trip, let alone run reliably out and about near the farm, but I have no idea how we will afford to get the requisite trailer-hauling capable vehicle with all the expenses in getting the house completed. But I will need a vehicle when Calamity Jean heads back to the Chicago area to look in on her father if she goes solo.

I could use a win in tonight's Lucky Day Lotto!

    •  Still Finishing Up Our August 1 Mile House Move. (6+ / 0-)

Smartest thing we ever did was hire house cleaners to come in after we'd moved out, before putting the house on the market. With my artisan shop filling up rooms, no way could we show it while occupied. It's hard enough cleaning a house you're moving into, without the hassle of the old place you're no longer emotionally invested in.

We've moved 2+,000 miles cross country twice. Never again. If we win the lotto, we take our musical instruments and wallet photos, everything else must go.
