    with those of us who know the area of the world a little more directly.  The conversation goes all over the place (link).  I know there are neocons angling to get what they can out of Ukraine, but I'm suspicious they're having much of an impact.

    Anyway, my point in this thread is that Ray's question is only relevant if Ukrainians really think the US backed their actions, which they don't, so the question doesn't make sense.

      I don't understand who the opposition is exactly.

      Unless I've missed something, if it's so cut & dried, (oppo good-- Putin bad) why don't the U.S. and Europe trot out actual [personable] opposition leaders (besides members of only one side of the Ukrainian government) before the press to humanize their side of the equation?

      It all brings to mind hegemonic ghosts of the past.
