      only put on the distinctive azure hue in mating season.  The rest of the time they look pretty much like any seagull-type bird.

        Sula sula - I took this photo at about 162 W longitude and 20 N latitude--- It would be quite remarkable to spot a blue footed booby (Sula nebouxii) this far out in the central Pacific.

        This is probably a mated pair that will spend several seasons, if not a lifetime, breeding together on islands in the Central Pacific. and pooping on the prows of the many fishing vessels they encounter during their journeys.

          Those scientific names are particularly euphonious.  Great photo and some amazing travels!
