  •  gbl3 - what's the conflict? (0+ / 0-)

Rauner managed a private equity fund. The State of IL was a limited partner. The fund was successful and the IL State pension fund had a positive investment return. Rauner retired from the private equity firm and no longer manages State pension assets. What's the conflict?

    "let's talk about that"

      •  Rauner, with his company, suckled on the tit ... (0+ / 0-)

of the Illinois pension system, and it helped him become very wealthy. He now resigns from his Private Equity Fund and wants to be the state's new governor, while claiming his major reason for doing so is to 'fix' Illinois' broken pension system. Well, good for him.
Why wasn't he working to fix the pension system when he was still working for GTRC? Does anyone believe that he will effect any meaningful change in the Illinois pension system as governor that would alter the flow of capital to his former employer? Call me cynical.

    •  I guess that if you want to assume (0+ / 0-)

that the wealthy retired-chairman of the fund didn't/doesn't have a sizeable stake in it, then I guess you're welcome to so believe.

    •  He's pitiful, he's pandering, and he's a (0+ / 0-)

Republic. Which part of that, excatly, attaracts you?

There can be no protection locally if we're content to ignore the fact that there are no controls globally.
