I'm surprised that Catholic doctrine could be interpreted to encouraging political alliance with groups that routinely spew hate speech about Catholics.  I'm sure Pope Francis has observed that too.

    •  Perhaps I should have said "surprising". (5+ / 0-)

Francis' shifting the focus back to the social justice teachings of the Gospels took a lot of people by surprise.

Which is funny, the surprise, I mean. Because anyone who knows anything about the Jesuits and Latin American Bishops wouldn't be that surprised.

The first Jesuit, The first Francis, the first from Latin America.

And my church has altar girls! I am so glad. I had always wanted to be a server when I was little, so it is very good to see them now. (Actually wanted to be a priest--used to hold mass at home in my closet and Mom would come receive communion from me.)

but I know that kind of switch is not something everyone can do. It was the hardest decision I ever made aside from taking my husband off of life support.

my daughter is baptized in the Episcopal Church. Catholicism is so much a part of my growing up and my family heritage though. As the liturgical year passes, memories return to me of things long ago. And then there is communion. Not sure if Episcopal has transubstantiation.

That must have been the hardest decision to make for you but am sure that you followed what your husband would have wanted. You have great love.

about the anti-Catholic bias present in many Protestant sects. Happened before Francis during the pro-life push. Francis pretty much downgraded that priority and demoted the US Bishop most closely associated with it.
