    •  sadly true, although I think your estimate is low (5+ / 0-)

some central and southern counties try to make make money off of the laws. But, they are recognizing that that is a misuse or waste of resources.  In Cook County (NO, there is no "R" in Cook), cops have so many more important issues to deal with, that it seems it is only several nasty suburban PDs that really harass folks for it.

A fellow lawyer showed me a police report, 3am, county road, 45 mph speed limit, where the driver claimed to be leaving a party after only one beer. She was stopped doing 15 mph, and her bloods were 0.31, which I always thought was fatal. Apparently, she smelled like a scene in Reefer Madness, and further blood tests were off the charts for pot. Yet, her only problems were driving so slowly in a 45, and taking over 3/4 of a mile to slow, then stop while the cop was "chasing" her with horns, lights, and siren.

According to my friend, the state dropped all pot charges, and simply went after the alcohol DUI.

What we call god is merely a living creature with superior technology & understanding. If their fragile egos demand prayer, they lose that superiority.

test.  If I were her, I certainly wouldn't have.

Anyway, you remind me of a story someone told me years ago.  Three people were in a car; all had smoked up a few hours earlier.  They noticed revolving lights in the rearview, so they pulled over (terrified, of course).  The cop came up, checked the ID of the driver, and asked, "Do you know how fast you were going?"  (They were in a 25 MPH zone.)

The driver said, "Forty miles an hour?"

        "No," the cop said.

Passenger said, "Fifty miles an hour?"

The guy in the backseat said, "A million miles an hour?"

The officer shook his head & held up his hand.  "Five."

Luckily, he just issued them a warning.

whose blood alcohol was .65. He was still able to chat with me and was coherent.

Bigotry knows no race or color. It's interesting, though, that it often seems to proliferate in churches.

i was thrown in the shitter for less than 2 joints and had to take drug abuse classes for 6 saturdays. the cops didn't care about the really dangerous stuff-the open case of beer in the back seat- but that was nearly 40 years ago, before that became so profitable too.

    •  Here in LA. locking people up for reefer (0+ / 0-)

Is merely a fun pastime for the prison-industrial system.
