    ... to support their apps on XP "for the time being".  The issues going forward are zero-day exploits and attack vectors that traditional anti-virus programs may not be well designed to intercept (the reason that MSFT has to send out monthly OS updates and emergency fixes in the first place).  I'll do some digging and find more information on Microsoft's statement that: "Anti-virus software will also not be able to fully protect you once Windows XP itself is unsupported."

    From what I've read, hackers are licking their chops and have been waiting for this for at least a year.

      connect with the internet and keep my XP systems offline. That will probably be a whole lot cheaper in time and energy than upgrading what I've got. Transfer between systems by thumbdrive should be fast enough for almost all my current purposes.

      At least half the future I've been expecting hasn't gotten here yet. Sigh.... (Yes, there's gender bias in my name; no, I wasn't thinking about it when I signed up. My apologies.)
