  •  Obvious Changes From a Sailor's Perspective (9+ / 0-)

as the weather is not merely the setting for my sport, as it is for most athletics and most other water sports, but it's my engine.

The trend toward Minnesota / central Canadian winters migrating to us, south of the Great Lakes, is certainly a bummer. I guess the good news is that we'll be less susceptible to some tropical bugs than we were expecting earlier.

As for the warmer 3/4 of the year, the storm and wind patterns have changed enough that if I were get back into racing, the local knowledge I used to become a minor regional contender would be more of a liability than an asset. The storm sequences are particularly different.

I haven't seen a season with 3 familiar cold front cycles in the 6 years I've lived here since returning. The changes have been persistent enough that if I were at the end of the economy to be considering purchase of a cruising sail boat, I'd have to weigh these factors in the choice of hull type and rig.
