      You're lifted up the first few thousand steps that everybody else has to climb. Then, you can climb from there, or not. Sometimes, if it's useful in the larger scheme of things, you can be lifted all the way to the top without climbing at all (see:  George W. Bush).

      Sure once I was young and impulsive, I wore every conceivable pin. Even went to socialist meetings, learned all the old union hymns. Ah, but I've grown older and wiser. And that's why I'm turning you in.
