  •  CDC report (0+ / 0-)
Unintentional firearm-related deaths have steadily declined during the past century. The number of unintentional deaths due to firearm-related incidents accounted for less than 1 percent of all unintentional fatalities in 2010 (Hoyert and Xu, 2012).
    Declining for a century.
    Less than 1%.

That places accidental death by firearm lower than accidental death from Motor Vehicles (42,000), Poisoning (39,000), Falls (25,000), Choking (2,700), Fire (2,500), Drowning (2,000) & Bicycles (800)

Accidental death by any other method is over 100 times more likely than it is by firearm.

    •  Spin, Frank, spin (3+ / 0-)

Given that the amount of time (in the aggregate) spent eating, driving and riding bicycles dwarfs the time played with guns the hazard per unit of time of fooling with firearms is very high. I'm sure you're also aware that owners of guns are much more likely to be shot by a gun, any gun, than those who do not possess firearms.

      •  Then don't own one. (0+ / 0-)

And let everyone else make that same choice for themselves.

Same as with any of the objects outlined above that lead to far more accidental deaths.

        •  and don't live anywhere near anyone who does (5+ / 0-)

or go into any public place, especially in jurisdictions with concealed carry.

The number of GunFail incidents where a bullet ends up lodged in a person who has not chosen to own a gun is pretty high. So no, I can't keep myself safe from gun violence just by not owning one.

          •  Your fear is based in abject ignorance. (0+ / 0-)

            From the CDC

Unintentional firearm-related deaths have steadily declined during the past century. The number of unintentional deaths due to firearm-related incidents accounted for less than 1 percent of all unintentional fatalities in 2010 (Hoyert and Xu, 2012).
All firearms accidents in total accounts for less than 1% of accidental deaths a year.
That is significantly less than accidental deaths from Motor Vehicles, choking, falling, bicycles, fire, poisoning & drowning.

There is a reason why the places with higher guns per capita & thus less ignorance of firearms are the same places that are the most against gun control.

            Educate yourself.
            Stop living in fear.

A stunning accomplishment in the field of mashing as many fallacies into one sentence as possible.

You presuppose that places with higher guns per capita have less ignorance of firearms. You provide no proof or documentation of this whatsoever.

You deliberately avoid naming any of these supposed places in order to avoid any direct analysis of your claim.

You use the incredibly broad and vague 'ignorance of firearms' in order to make it difficult to define exactly what you are claiming.

You avoid the obvious connection that places most against gun control are likely to have less gun control, and thus more guns per capita, making a huge portion of your argument circular.

Making statements you would like to be true without any evidence whatsoever does not make them true. It also does not make for a persuasive argument for your position.

                  •  Those with more experience are less ignorant. (0+ / 0-)

                    Self-apparent.

My bad. I didn't realize you lacked Google.

Only if you ignore the fact that gun control hasn't been around forever, but nevermind that for now:
I have been told numerous times by supporters of gun control that gun control isn't onerous to the point that it makes gun ownership so difficult for innocent people to acquire guns.
Thanks so much for setting that misunderstanding straight!

As usual, you simply ignore those things you have no rebuttal for.

The reality is, you like guns, therefore guns are good in every way, context, and situation. If any evidence or facts run counter to this, they are to be ignored.

Your posts amount to a collection of circular logic demonstrations and ideological masturbation.

Your own diary on accidents via other means. You deliberately miss the point to this diary which is to showcase the need for more regulation and legislation for gun ownership and misuse, which are inadequate considering guns are designed as weapons. Vehicles already have consequences and safety precautions, bicycles, too. As they are not manufactured as a weapon, I fail to see why you need to have those statistics in comments to this diary. I don't think comparing poisonings and choking (et.al) are appropriate in this context, either.

As this community welcomes anyone to post diaries, be sure to write one that furthers your agenda so we can all be enlightened.

        facilitate fear-mongering.
My purpose is to show the facts.
That is the reason reason why I am showing the actual stats using the CDC.

Vehicles already have consequences and safety precautions, bicycles, too.
So do firearms & the consequences and safety precautions of firearms have proven to be far superior to the safety precautions of either bicycles or vehicles.
