    My Irish ancestors came to the US in the 1850's through Boston.  They settled in Easton, MA where they all worked at Ames Shovel Factory.  When viewing the census from 1850 - 1900, you see lines and lines of people listed as "shovel maker."  These were the people who provided the tools for the railroad to be built.  Ames tools still exists but it is no longer in Easton.  The old shovel factory still stands there though.  The last ancestor from that line--my grandmother (Dad's mom) died in 1918 in the great flu epidemic.  She was 28 years old and my dad was only 1.  Genealogy is a fascinating thing to study!
