that current NSA activities and practices (as well as those of the CIA, DHS and 14 other agencies) violate our 1st and 4th amendment rights and that these practices must end.

We have to make this case in a way that convinces, indeed we will need to create a true groundswell of popular opinion against current practices. We have to make this case in a way that will inspire broad action, not only by our political allies, but also by people who disagree with us on other topics. Thankfully, this seems possible.

This is the reality we find ourselves in.

But there seems to be a coalition from both parties who are taking the lead on this issue. Sure, Paul is out front with his base on this. And he's getting more attention in the media than Ron Wyden is, but we definitely have some strong partners in this effort.

        And they need us.

This might be the most difficult undertaking in the history of our republic.

One wants to think that enough time has passed that the U.S. will wake up from its 9/11 stupor, which made us so afraid that we didn't care what the government did (some of us didn't at least) as long as they promised to keep us safe... One wants to think that when people see what is now being done, that they will blink many times as if they are waking up and say WTF? and then they will be on our side. But they've been terrorized - not just by terrorists. By our own government - for years - following 9/11. By most of the news media ever since. This has been a shameful period of our history.

It will take our very best efforts to reverse the course we've been on for 13 years regarding surveillance and privacy.
