So anything Cuomo gets passed is evidence that he can pass anything, and anything he doesn't get passed is just evidence that he didn't want it to pass in the first place.  That's a nice little self-fulfilling prophecy you've got there.

The idea that the abortion provision of the women's bill was a poison pill would constitute a remarkably Machiavellian performance if true.  I think it's simpler to believe it's exactly what it appears to be: a vital part of the legislation that Cuomo wasn't willing to give up just to achieve a legislative victory.

Have you actually seen the power this guy wields here?

When he can push thought things like SSM, the SAFE Act, pension reform, a property tax cap, and all sorts of other items that just 5 years ago would have been uphill battles that would have been lost...  It's not "tautological."  He really does have the political capital to get those other items passed if he wanted them passed.

I don't think you quite understand just how, cold, calculating, and practically Machiavellian Cuomo actually is.  Everything he does is triangulation for his future POTUS aspirations.  EVERYTHING.  He doesn't back something he'll "lose" unless it will benefit him in some other way.  So when he "loses" a battle on legislation - he meant to lose that battle.

This isn't just my opinion.  It's the consensus opinion of Cuomo around Albany.

"There was no such thing as a "wealthy" hunter-gatherer. It is the creation of human society that has allowed the wealthy to become wealthy. As such, they have an obligation to pay a bit more to sustain that society than the not-so-wealthy." - Me
