and Estonia has been criticized for disenfranchising a good chunk of their population for quite a while now because of language. Turning that into war drums is idiotic.

Putin is not stupid and is not going to attack Estonia. But keep up the war hype, keep pretending he's Hitler. Even if he's stupid he's not suicidal which he would have to be to attack NATO.

It's not a stretch to be concerned he's dumb enough to try it a second time with a NATO ally.
Yes, it's a massive stretch. A fucking gigantic stretch. The Russian diplomat in question said this at the UN, and Russia has been saying this exact thing for years about Estonia, which is worse than Ukraine in this regard and many other international organizations agree with Russia on this. Pretending this is a prelude to war is fucking dumb.

About hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst?

And, I will repeat, considering what has been happening in Ukraine for the past several weeks, leaving any eventuality off the table is fucking dumb.

You seem to confuse monitoring a situation with wanting a war, or assuming that there will automatically be one.

You keep using that word... I don't think it means what you think it means.

but what it is, fear mongering. You aren't "monitoring" the situation, you're making absurd claims about Russia doing shit that it simply isn't going to do. If you seriously think there's a chance that Russia is going to invade or annex part of Estonia then you have no connection to reality. The difference between the situation in Ukraine and Estonia is like night and day. Maybe you missed the part where Ukraine had a revolution? And the part where Russia already had tens of thousands of troops there?

"Just monitoring" is flat wrong, you're spreading nonsense based on nothing but propaganda and misleading statements.

one has to wonder why VP Biden went to Lithuania to reassure them.

and it's the diplomatic thing to do. Lithuania has almost no Russians, maybe they'll vote to secede too!

A Russian diplomat mentioning minority rights in Estonia was presented as the drums of war. It's sensationalism ad fear mongering at it's worst.

            •  Well, not my diary (0+ / 0-)

so I take no credit for that. And I do sincerely hope you are correct. It will be interesting to watch the news develop and see if Russia tries to stir up unrest in Estonia or if this is truly just bloviating on the part of the Russians.

was by the diarist. I didn't mean to claim you were fear mongering, sorry.

I agree with you that there are major differences between Estonia and Ukraine.
