    If the members won't act on it, then it doesn't matter.  I'm not convinced they will.

      doing so would negate over half a century of political stability in western and central Europe.

        Making Ukraine a NATO member now would commit NATO to war, immediately.  Have you even thought this through?  Russian troops are in Crimea which we say is Ukrainian territory.  It shocks me to see Kossacks who are in warmongering territory that even John McCain won't enter.

        If Ukraine is in NATO we would be obliged to somehow expel the Russian troops from the Crimea.  Since the Russians won't go, that means that two nuclear-armed countries would then be at war.

          ...but, there is no way that Ukraine can be offered a spot.  It's in waaaay too tenuous a position to extend that kind of alliance.
