    Had he stuck solely to gay funerals, he wouldn't have been nearly as effective an advocate as a gay rights, as he would not have attracted (unfortunately) nearly as much controversy (and pushback) in his activities.

    Just my humble opinion...

      what he was thinking. Any sane person could have realized he would not be helping his cause by doing absurd and grotesquely offensive stuff like that. That's why I think the parody theory can't be dismissed outright. More likely though, he was insane. I remember reading somewhere that he had a long history of drug addiction and psychotic behavior.

      The most serious problem in American politics today is that people with wrong ideas are uncompromising, and people with good ideas are submissive and unwilling to fight. Change that, and we might have a real democracy again.
