  •  Oh good grief! It's just absolutely nuts to (0+ / 0-)

claim that Christianity blocked science for centuries.

The evidence to the contrary is just absolutely overwhelming.

    Bigoted and foolish diary.

    •  Tell that to Giordano Bruno! (2+ / 0-)

      •  Do you know anything about Bruno beyond (0+ / 0-)

        some anti-church talking points?

He was a magician, not a scientist.  It was wrong to kill him, but it's ridiculous to claim this tragedy somehow proves that the church has always opposed science.

    •  It is also bigoted and foolish to (0+ / 0-)

ignore the fact that the church's history is replete with suppression of rational thought and free inquiry. It was not just science that felt the censoring hand of the RCC, it was other religious thought within Christianity (the heresies), the ideas of other religions in general (the full destruction of pagan shrines, texts, lives and the co-opting of their art, wealth and even ideas like communion) between 400 and 800 CE; the Inquisitions, the destruction of native cultures, etc. etc.

You are apologizing for an institution with not only an extremely ugly history, but one who for some reason still gets away with trotting out an old 5th century "crown of thorns" and claiming that it actually sat on the head of "Jesus Christ".

Sorry Timaeus, but when you get all indignant about criticisms the RCC and throw out terms like "bigoted and foolish", I just feel a need to get indignant about it too.
