I don't see you can overlook Griffith being a one term Democratic congressman (who had just barely been elected to Congress in an acrimonious campaign against a Republican), and after a very short tenure in the State Senate as a left-leaning Democratic and long, prominent involvement in Democratic party politics, and Gene Taylor, who was a ten term incumbent who regular won reelection with more than 70% of the vote, and prior to that was a State Senator who his name combating some of the most powerful figures in the Mississippi Democratic party.

I won't make that kind of judgment until I see how much fire Taylor has and whether he can raise good money, as well as which major local Republicans will back him over Palazzo (who they have talked about wanting to primary before), particularly around Biloxi where Taylor probably won close to a majority of the Republican vote even in 2010, while, again, running with a D behind his name.
