  •  It's a good morning (7+ / 0-)

-4 this morning.  My dog was feeling adventurous at about 6:30, and wanted to go out on the river side door to relieve herself (usually, it's the driveway side).  The snow is still about 3' thick, consolidated and crusty but not crusty enough to support her weight.  It took a while, but she successfully floundered back.  I did not have to go get her.  So, right there we were off to a good start, and the sun breaking over the mountains all rosy hued is the cherry on top.

It's a good morning for working in my shop, at least until the temperature outside gets higher.  I was looking at the cabinet doors I am making for a friend last night, and noticed that the pile of sawdust and chips is considerably larger than the pile of finished door parts.  I am making them out of oak slabs I cut from trees I cleared when building this house.  So, most of the waste that comes with making stuff is right there.  We are a messy species but those doors, with quarter sawn spalted oak raised panels, are also things of great beauty.  While not everlasting, they will outlast me by decades at least.

After that, I plan to tie flies.  That is sort of the other end of the spectrum.   At least some of what I will tie will be suggestive enough of the first emergers of the season to take a fish, but none of them will last very long.  Like the name of one of my favorite bugs (Ephemerella), they come and they go, leaving a dimple on the water and whatever it is that makes a memory.

I sure like not having to go to work.  As I said, it's a good morning.
