    and no president will ever allow the Antiquities act to be gutted. only 3 presidents have never used the AA: Nixon, Ford and Bush 41. obama would certainly veto this if it passed the senate, and there is no chance the required two thirds majority in both houses can be reached to override his veto.

      a quick, strong reaction doesn't just shut down the GOP; it will also show the administration how important new monument designations are, and perhaps scare the GOP out of making future such attempts when they're stronger, or milder attempts that could win as riders.

      •  true. the goal should be a law that says the aa (0+ / 0-)

        applies to all parts of the us, including wyoming and alaska, without limitation. if congress acts the aa is not needed. but if congress fails to act, they leave it up to the president and lose all say in the matter. it does not matter how much the residents of a state bitch and complain. it applies to everyone, so no one is being singled out.
