  •  Yes, just extend Medicare (0+ / 0-)

Expecting the insurance vultures to do the right thing is ridiculous. We could just gradually extend Medicare- it works, it acts as our only medical cost regulator, and money we put into it benefits everybody eventually. Plus we have input via elected legislators. I would suggest extending down into 50s first, since that's about when the insurance vultures try to push everybody out of the pool by outrageous premium hikes.

    •  That would have been the right solution. (1+ / 0-)

But the insurance companies are too powerful. The worst part is that in many places hospital corporations are merging with insurance companies into mega-corporations. This system is just going to turn medicine into even more expensive and unresponsive to consumers. Why would they care to give a fair price if they have a captive market?  I hope I am wrong but maybe this mandate just created a monster (monopoly). There is a reason other countries have better and cheaper healthcare, the most efficient would be if provided directly through the government, but unfortunately no one would even consider it.
