    knows that history, and I see no evidence of that.  

    The ad is driven by two factors:

    1.) She's being outspent by Mark Jacobs so has to get free media.  An outrageous ad does that.

    2.) She is trying to frame Mark Jacobs as a carpetbagger/outsider, and talking about doing farm activities reinforces this narrative.

    It's still a terrible ad and makes it hard to take Ernst seriously, which is odd since she's probably the most qualified of the Republicans (experience in government, backing by the party establishment).  

    Someone interested in semiotics could make the argument, as well, that it's a way for a female candidate to "take back" the ball-buster narrative (remember the Hillary nutcracker?), but that again gives Ernst too much credit.  What do you do when you grow up on a hog farm?  You cut the hogs' testicles off for some reason.  

    Difficult, difficult, lemon difficult.
