  •  Because they lie (16+ / 0-)

And I don't give a damn if they tax a millionaire if in return my Social Security is slashed.  What on earth good is that to me.

Plus not only do they want to slash Social Security benefits, they have increasing means testing Medicare in the budget which goes right at the VERY SAME SENIORS WHO HAVE INCOMES OF LESS THAN $50K.

This is a poverty creation program.  It's aimed at middle class seniors whose assets are already insufficient to last them into their 90's and makes them poor sooner.

I cannot tell you how INTENSELY I oppose this.

I will flat out leave the party on this.  It's a BETRAYAL.  It goes at the voters who have voted for the party the longest and says, sorry sucker, you bought our con and now when you are too old to do anything about it we're going to SCREW YOU as bad as the Republicans.

I was thinking that the gains from single-payer health care would cancel out the downside of chained CPI. You make a reasonable argument that that's not the case - and so, if what you're saying is correct (no reason to doubt you), I wouldn't support such a deal.

the worst kind of politics is the kind of politics some in Democratic leadership engage in. They might believe that engaging in some of these bargains may attract some voters from the other side while in reality what they're doing is discouraging their base and throwing it under the bus in the process. The logic shouldn't be trading rights for economic security. By now we should all be well versed in the kind of red herring that such arguments, Hoyer's in this case, are.

The argument is simple, Social Security we have paid for, single payer would be cheaper and better than what we are already paying for, and to keep SS and get single payer I don't have to trade anything. I just need to fight for them. Like I said, one we already pay for directly and the other we know we would collectively spend lessless, significantly less, than what we already do as individuals in either monthly premiums or medical bills or both.

All Hoyer  has to do is make good arguments for progressive values and defend those principles. He doesn't want to do it? He wants to carry water for the oligarchs and his financiers while pitting Democrats against each other with false dichotomies? Fine, let us find better leaders that will do what it is in our collective interest. We need to trade him not our values.

"The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie -- deliberate, contrived and dishonest, but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic. Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought." -John F. Kennedy

I wish he weren't the most entrenched incumbent I've ever seen.

Sure once I was young and impulsive, I wore every conceivable pin. Even went to socialist meetings, learned all the old union hymns. Ah, but I've grown older and wiser. And that's why I'm turning you in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u52Oz-54VYw

    •  They need to tax the rich (8+ / 0-)

to PAY BACK what was taken out of Social Security so that we could continue to have a government and a society while the rich went on a thirty-year bender.
