    following the best science, with transparent guidelines. i would add putting  stronger penalties on shooting protected species like wolves. we're trying to save the species after all. I agree use the IUCN to set targets, and have the targets be high enough to ensure the species protection once they are de-listed.

          I'd think lions not endangered either, I don't study them much, none here.

            between 'least concern' and endangered. theres strong lion populations in many national parks in places like kenya and Uganda, but outside those preserve lion population is dropping. but since they are such popular animals, lots of efforts are being made to preserve habitat for them. there used to be lions in north America before the last ice age.

              before the last ice age here in NA, something like 3/4 of the mammals gone. Yet the remaining species are adapted for that much different time.

                changing conditions from the ice age, it got too cold for them to survive.

                  of humans coincides with large numbers of large mammals going extinct.
