If comprehensive immigration reform passes, we will lose our liberty and become a one-party state, we will watch our nation be balkanized along ethnic and cultural lines and lose its social cohesion,
to me, a one party state would seem to be moving in exactly the opposite direction of balkanization.

freaking out over the Germans in Pennsylvania in the early 18th century.

And you know what?  The Mennonites and Amish never managed to turn us all into German-speaking Anabaptists.  The Amish are a lot less into assimilation and mainstreaming than Mexican-Americans. And look what happened?  Even the Amish, who try as hard as possible to live separately, learned English and participate in our economy and fit in, in their own way. The rest of the German immigrants from the 18th century? They mixed in.

This is all so obviously racial hysteria and nothing more.  Immigrants become Americans, and it doesn't matter if they are Irish, or Polish, or Mexican or Filipino, or Nigerian.

I think what they fear as "balkanization" is really that they will be alone and everyone else will be against them:

      Non fearful whites
      Black people
      Latinos
      Immigrants of every nation

It's called projection.  After we've all moved on and future generations of mixed-up multi-color babies are the new Americans, they will be the Balkan enclave, isolated into some fearful corner of Kentucky, or North Dakota, or the hinterland around Dallas, clinging to their guns like Serb nationalists still fighting the Ottomans.
