And I'm not sure why fantasy fiction has spoken so much to me. I guess I love being enchanted, and escaping the humdrum. I find it intoxicating to arrive in another country, and set out in the evening of another atmosphere, where all around me tingles with difference; I'm a sucker for falling in love, where the straight lines of logic and habit get bent around the gravity of hunger and electric connection; and back in college, I tried many drugs, but none was as fascinating  as the world-distorting adventure of LSD.

A strong fantasy novel is a bit like all of the above, with much less money and risk involved. I do find that the more I read, the better I get at giving myself up to it, and nowadays any good novel can transport me.
