    badly mischaracterizes Eowyn.  It also badly mischaracterizes Galadriel, who gets a genuinely heroic moment in the books, and ignores the good reason for the isolation of Lothlórien.

    Then there’s Goldberry, who is at least a river spirit of some sort and possibly even a minor Maia, and Rose Cotton, who, for all that we barely see her, seems to have been something of an anchor for Sam.

    I’m not denying that women are grossly underrepresented, but it’s not necessary to exaggerate in order to make that point.
