  •  France: Hollande replaces Prime Minister (2+ / 0-)

After a poor showing in local elections, PM Jean-Marc Ayrault resigned, replaced by Hollande's interior minister Manuel Valls.

Valls is apparently popular with voters and has presidential ambitions of his own. I wonder if he ends up running as the Socialist nominee if Hollande's ratings dont improve.

Now his ratings will sink because he has to take responsibility for the Government. And when he's gone, good riddance. Valls is on the PS' right and has spread anti-Roma and anti-immigrant sentiment as Interior Minister. Polls actually have him more popular on the right than the left. It's disgusting someone like him is PM, but at least France's PM isn't particularly powerful, and being PM will probably sink his political career.

His father is also catalan and his mother is from Switzerland.

I know not if he would be electable for president of France, but if there is some talk about it, maybe possible.
