    survival conditions with ordinary nonspecialist people knows that people will accept any level of bad news if it's real, and if there are things they can do with it.

    There's a reason we own the whole planet after coming thru bottlenecks as small as a few thousand total individuals within the last hundred thousand years.

    The problem is our political and economic systems evolved only mainly over the last thousand years of huge surpluses, never tested by the kind of hard limitations climate change represents, that we the organisms and our ancient small-c cultures evolved to live with.
