  •  Growing food (4+ / 0-)

The massive pollution of the bread basket of the US where we coasties will move when the waters rise is serious. Rivers for drinking water are being destroyed by Duke Energy in NC using them as toilets.  North Dakota has oil companies dripping oil leaks by the hundreds that are mostly unknown or photos are ignored.  Fracking filters that are radioactive are casually tossed into abandoned buildings.  Those in charge look like "deer in the headlights" one native commented.   As one farmer said, he needs sun, soil and water to grow food.  He does not need fossil fuels.  With much of the west in drought, the east with rising water and the neocons loving the Kochs in the fly-over states, the future is in doubt.

difficult if we face serious water shortages/droughts, and heat waves.

Where I live we get those and when we don't, it's ice storms plus hail storms and tornadoes and torrential rains.

Your garden is beat to a pulp, your fruit is knocked off the trees, and whatever survives is basted in August, assuming that it's not too hot for the plants to take up what little water you can give it.

Pretty soon Okies will live on Prickly Pears because that will be all that grows out here before long.
