afaik. And the situation with Ukraine is not quite over yet. Although given that Ukrainians are demanding to be present during discussions they obviously expect the discussions to produce smth. Sure, not attacking Ukraine is a responsible thing to do but it's far from obvious that Putin will do the responsible thing.

If the end result will be Russian Crimea with no significant changes otherwise, it will be a strong performance by the President.

it, who was a CATO member. There have also been suggestions that Russia would invade Finland. I've been saying that there is no chance Russia would attack NATO the whole time, but there were people here who are otherwise reasonable who believed it was a possibility. There were a number of people in Europe whom I know who seemed to think there was a threat of that as well. Even invading Ukraine seemed totally out there.

It fits past behavior,  Georgia for example. It's not just rational, it looks good for Russia and for Putin. Putin often takes the action that makes him look like the rational actor on the stage.

If knowledge is power and power corrupts, does that mean that knowledge corrupts?

doesn't have anything like it there. Maybe he did say it at some point. He blames Ukrainian government for not resisting Russians and to some extent Obama and Merkel for not being tougher.

Putin is a very good tactician. I also assumed that he won't invade Eastern Ukraine. But it's hard to predict what he's going to do.
