You've got a nice house in Westchester.  You have a spouse and a couple of kids.  You're making a few hundred grand a year but you're spending it all on mortgage, private schools, you name it.  Believe me, in Westchester, a few hundred grand doesn't get you much more than comfortable upper middle class.

You can either toe the line or you get laid off, and then what?  The Post or the WSJ or the Manhattan Institute will pay you maybe a hundred grand.  Maybe you can get a job at AEI but you'll have to move to DC.  Or maybe there's an anchor job for you but it's in Tulsa.  Tell that to your family if your current home's in Mamaroneck.  You're not going to CBS or CNN, if you know what I mean.

See the conundrum?  That's how someone who walks into Fox with half a conscience can find it stripped after a year.  It's the upper middle class version of a guy making $14 an hour who's afraid to complain about mandatory overtime or else he's fired and his kids don't eat.
