Obama will never reach that status, at least in terms of people (wingnuts, the librul media) admitting he was a centrist (in other words, centre right on most issues) all along.

Republicans will no doubt pull the "even Obama wasn't..." line when attacking future Democratic presidential candidates or occupants of the White House, like they did with Bill Clinton in 2012. Clinton was the anti-christ who let his Hollywood pals have orgies in the Lincoln bedroom. But after 4 years of an uppity blah president, having a Third Way southerner in the White House felt like Christmas to these lunatics. If they have to listen to Hillary's nails on a chalkboard screech for 4 years, they'll look back on Obama's baritone voice and presidency more fondly than they look upon him now. But they'll never try and co-opt him.

      •  Praise for Being Dead. (0+ / 0-)

It's always been this way with Republicans. They'll find some Democrats to praise (in most such comparisons, the praiseworthy ones are already dead, and can't object) in order to disparage other Democrats who are still living.

Before the 1992 election, I had this dream of how 96 would turn out if George McGovern had died in GHW Bush's second term, and Vice President Dan Quayle had praised McGovern so he could say that the current crop had fallen from the principles of 72.

It often seems that Republicans lie for sport. If they could win an election without lying, it would seem pointless, flavorless and BOOOOOOOORIIIIIIIING!
