    of the over-coverage.  And that is all about the lameness of the news media in general.  If something is noteworthy - such as the website glitches that were being reported, many of the news organizations will want to sensationalize that and ride it out as far as they can go (see Malaysian plane disappearance).  It is mostly a matter of trying to get ratings as high as you can for as long as you can.  Only when the topic is political in nature it is fraught with implications.

      It isn't about the news.  It's about ratings.

      There was a time in this nation when ratings for your newscasting didn't matter.  As a network, you simply did it and did it honestly because you had to, as it was seen as your civic duty to do so.  It wasn't about profit.  You didn't care if your newscast even was profitable.  It was about public service.

      Fast forward to today....  It's 100% about ratings, and vicariously, profit.  This especially accelerated with the advent of cable news.
