  •  Journalists do not equal the media (9+ / 0-)

However hard a journalist works to uncover facts, connect concepts and present important information to the public, and however compelling that story is when read and understood, freedom of the press still belongs to those who own presses. Collectively, we call the owners of those presses (together with satellites, broadcast towers, exclusive cable rights of way, etc.)  The Media.

Those owners choose the journalists, stories and headlines on the basis of how well they connect advertisers to consumers. If a topic is too boring without some prior knowledge, or a story too long and complex for most readers to reach the exciting part, it gets skipped because it won't deliver readers. If a story to too true on the wrong topic, it gets skipped because it will scare away advertisers or other corporate partners.

The journalists try as hard as ever, but you have to go out of your way to hear them.

members of the political classes demand the death penalty for actual journalism.  If you don't think that's true, research current accusations of "treason" and what the legally established penalties for treason are.  In short:  death penalty for telling people what's being done to you, in your own name, with your tax dollars.  Using the fear of al-Qaeda as a pretext, while simultaneously covertly supplying arms and materiel to ... al-Qaeda.

Pay no attention to the upward redistribution of wealth!
