  •  Chrome crashed repeatedly (7+ / 0-)

at a site that I used to interact with very intensively, and I just don’t like it, in much the same way that I just don’t like Macs: in each case something just rubs me a little the wrong way.  I keep it around, just as I keep around a copy of Opera, since every once in a while they come in handy, but for everyday use I still prefer Firefox.

And I’m not all that keen on Google these days, though I do still use them for e-mail and most web searches.

    •  Must admit I use more than one browser (7+ / 0-)

but being a Linux-box mine will behave differently on different sites depending on the environment I meet there. More and more lately Chrome's reliable where Firefox locks up, though.

Makes me sad 'cause I liked Firefox a lot.

Oh, and if you're not yet IPV6 aware, get that way.

Like a IPV6 for dummies link?

just ixquicked and duck ducked it (my search engines) sounds like alien language to me = [

I'll hunt around for more links but if you have a handy one, appreciate it

        thanks for the tip! BlackSheep

shanghaied last year into a three-day school on it by the Texas Task Force on IPv6 (Internet Protocol, version 6). Since I last monkeyed with Internet from the point of view of anything more detailed than "plug this in and turn that switch," apparently, I was blessed with no bad habits to unlearn.

Why it matters is we're running out of internet addresses on IPv4. What it does is generate the internet address a little differently.

Also, you don't have to truncate headers anymore. The address field is a bit lengthier and the potential number of addresses available is much larger.

We get there via Hurricane Electric.

you can) a favor: Get aboard the train for IPv6 before the panic hits (estimates are we'll run all the way out of IPv4 addresses within the next year, as ARIN reports the last big /unit's already gone). You can find out more here:

              •  But IPv6 is such a royal pain in the ass as (0+ / 0-)

not only do you have to set up a LinkedIn account but you actually have to write an essay as to why you want it and what you plan to do with it.  Even then it will be much slower than IPv4 (but not quite as slow as TOR) so why go to all the trouble for nothing?

You have watched Faux News, now lose 2d10 SAN.

                •  um. No. That is actually not so. (0+ / 0-)

                  Sigh.

                  •  Yes it is, unless you are lucky enough (0+ / 0-)

to have an ISP that supports IPv6 which quite a few of us don't.  I looked at it once and couldn't be bothered to go through all that.  Even if you can find someone other than Sixxs who doesn't either charge you or require you to jump through a bunch of hoops it is still going to be slower than IPv4.

                    •  No, it's not. But of course YOUR anecdote (0+ / 0-)

                      is universally decisive data.

                      Ptui.

Look, I live in the armpit of Bush Country. If I can get to IPv6 internet by default ... what that says to me is your provider's lazy and shortsighted.

                      Not atypical.

                      •  Well like it or not sadly the only way (0+ / 0-)

many of us are getting IPv6 anytime soon is to use a tunnel broker.  Can you suggest one that doesn't require you to jump through all sorts of hoops like Sixxs does and doesn't have a huge speed penalty?

                          of years ago.
Haven't had a speed penalty at all.
