with an understanding of McConnell's role?

I've been looking at the link you gave and looks like a full on RNC move.

Aug 30 2013     Motion of Senator Mitch McConnell for leave to participate in oral argument as amicus curiae and for divided argument GRANTED.
Oct 8 2013     Argued. For appellants: Erin E. Murphy, Washington, D. C.; and Bobby R. Burchfield, Washington, D. C. (for Senator Mitch McConnell, as amicus curiae.)
What got me started was, I was wondering how this guy from alabama coould get there and looked him up..

It's just blatantly open Republican sponsored isn't it?

      •  Skkye - the case was clearly sponsored by the GOP (1+ / 0-)

There was no attempt to mask their involvement. The GOP was a sponsor of the lawsuit from the very beginning and McConnell was allowed ten minutes in oral argument (which he had a lawyer speak on his behalf). McCutcheon is a Republican and has the means to contribute beyond the old cap so he was a perfect test case from the perspective of the plaintiffs.

Unless the five Justices who were the majority in Citizens United were willing to backtrack in a very significant manner, this outcome was very predictable.

I wasn't aware of the amount of out right political officials and their orgs that were openly arguing for it.

It wasn't that much of a done deal for me, but I am sure that is because I have no legal background, just a layperson, regarding law. And it hadn't struck me to dive into it until the ruling!

I appreciate your help in clarifying for me, VCLib!

          Thanks alot!
