  •  Unfortunately, the Supremes couldn't care less (7+ / 0-)

They're safely above and beyond us lowly, powerless worms crawling in the dust. They're absolutely free to do as they please with no worry at all of being held to account for any of it. Let the peons bleat like the sheep they are, they'll be sheared all the same.

The coup by the -- wealthier, oh-so-much-more-deserving -- aristocracy is pretty much complete.

...they really shouldn't care less what the public thinks.

That's the job of elected legislators. The courts should uphold the Constitution no matter how unpopular it may be. Recall that many good civil rights rulings were not been met with universal joy among the populace. There's a good reason that Federal judges serve life terms -- it's to help them judge by law, not by popular opinion.

The Supreme Court has no power except to interpret the Constitution and the law. If the public sufficiently dislikes their interpretation, they can get the Constitution amended and/or the laws changed to remove any ambiguity that is allowing for misinterpretation.

The people are free to amend the Constitution to eliminate the right of an individual to spend more than X dollars of their assets or Y hours of their time (time and money are fungible and should be treated as such) supporting a candidate (or, all candidates in aggregate which is what this case was about) per year if that's what they want.

What values of X and Y do folks here think is right?
