      I'll be doing well if I see as many new species in the remaining nine months of the year as I did in this one tally!

      By the way I made some adjustments to my earlier list.  I think I had the yellow-bellied sapsucker on there twice, and I decided that what I thought was a Swainson's warbler might have been a chipping sparrow.  I noticed under some lighting conditions I can't see the streaks on the chipping sparrows.  There was some other bird that I had seen but forgot to list.  It added up to 44 birds last month rather than 45.

      The barn swallows' return is dramatic.  Suddenly the air is full of them swooping around, and the barn is full of their chatter.
