    If you are a conservative then you accept the ideology of conservatism. If you are a catholic you accept the tenets of Catholicism.
    That catholicism is 'owned.' It has in place a method to separate truth from error (ecumenical councils and Ex Cathedra Papal teachings). It can say that 'this' is the Catholic Faith and 'that' is not. And claims infallibilty when doing so.

    Conservativism has no such feature and makes no claim to having an infallible office (not even Rush Limbaugh). So one can look back at the past and say that they got something wrong. There is no catechcism of conservatism.  I don't even think that there is one ideology of conservatism. More like the plethora of protestant churches with various beliefs, claiming a common descent.
