    I don't know anything about this guy. I'm afraid I've sort of decided that anyone in Cuomo's camp is going to be pretty toxic, but I should really do some digging around with an open mind.

    Not that my opinion matters much, I suppose, at the end of the day ...

    My feeling is that a really effective SEC director would be an unknown who wanted to make a name for himself or herself and was willing to risk it all to do so.

    An "eminent" person like Mary Jo White who has a lot invested in keeping her position at the table is just not going to take on that kind of risk. But beyond this, she is a person who seems to reflexively favor the powerful over regular people, so she might not actually be interested in using the SEC to clean house on Wall St.

    In fact, I'm pretty sure that is the case.

    This is the sort of appointment you would make when you wanted to preserve the status quo and "make sure no one important gets hurt."
