New Daughter Changes The Lives Of Denver Couple

DENVER (CBS4) – A married couple in Denver say their daughter changed their lives and they thank the foster care system for completing their family.

“She has brought so much more love and happiness to us than we could do for her. It has changed our lives for the better,” Ferrandino said.

The new family met for the first time at the hospital when Lila was getting some testing. It was there that the 8-month-old girl stole their hearts and the two became a family of three.

The new parents hope to inspire other people to adopt children as well. The Adoption Exchange says there are 500 children needing families in Colorado.

Pretty cool human interest story on tonight's local CBS 10PM news.

It was about a family who adopted a two year old girl. It showed the little girl in her backyard playground, running down the street with her parents, being a happy kid.

The only way you knew it was a family of two men was the visuals of course, and when they mentioned the men's names.

There was no reference to it being a same sex family. And, at the end the tv anchor said "The new parents hope to inspire other people to adopt children as well. The Adoption Exchange says there are 500 children needing families in Colorado."

It was striking to me that she didn't say other "same sex couples" to adopt, or something similar. It was completely a story about adoption, with no comment about this being different, or anything out of the ordinary. It was not a "gay couple adopts" story, just an adoption story.

One of the men is a state rep., and speaker of the house here in Colorado.
