    control the Senate rules. Period.

Now, are there political risks in doing things like, say eliminating the filibuster for everything, including judicial appointments, where Reid has chosen to retain it? Of course.

However, rbjets69 is technically correct: it's Reid's decision to make.

A lot of this gridlock and grandstanding is because of the rules--not laws, not constitutional guidelines--but rules of the Senate. Only Harry Reid can change them.

    •  Filibuster will be gone ... (4+ / 0-)

Two seconds after the GOP takes over this fall.

Then in 2016 we can keep it gone and get some progress made after we RE-take.

2014-16?  Ugh.  I hope Obama has lots of ink in his veto pen.

Can you imagine this happening anywhere other than the U.S. Senate? Imagine one team scored 54 points in last night's basketball game, the other scored 43. The team with 43 won the game, because you have to reach 60 points to win. Even if you score 59 and the other side scores 12, you lose. Ridiculous.
